Let's Talk Locations

Your locations set the vibe for your shoot, so choose ones that feel the most you! Here are a few faves:

Country – Fields, fences, and golden-hour glow for that soft, natural look

Floral/Garden – Full of color and dreamy, romantic vibes

Beachy – Docks, dunes, and barefoot moments by the water

Small Town – Cute streets, cozy corners, and colorful charm

Urban – Bold architecture, brick walls, and cool-girl energy

Sports Field – Show off your cheer fit, jersey, or letterman jacket

I recommend picking 2–3 to mix it up! Once you know your vibe, I’ll send you some perfect location options.

What to Wear

The #1 rule when picking outfits: if it’s not comfortable, it won’t make you feel confident on camera. If you’re tugging, adjusting, or worried about how it fits, it’s not the right piece. Your photos should feel like YOU, so wear what makes you feel good in real life.

Have fun with your choices! Bold colors pop on camera (think pinks, blues, jewel tones, pastels). Play with layers & textures and don’t forget the details: a cute statement jacket, bold earrings, fun shoes, a cute bag, or even just a swipe of gloss can totally elevate your look!

Here’s the perfect mix:

Start with a long, flowy dress (a total must-have!!)

Then bring two jeans + top combos—one casual, one a little dressier

After that, sprinkle in the fun stuff: sports uniform, letterman jacket over a cute dress, or your future college tee!

Hair & Makeup

Whether you decide to treat yourself to a professional hair + makeup artist or do it yourself, the goal is the same: to help you feel confident and look your absolute best on camera.

If hiring a professional is in your budget, it’s a fun way to start your session stress-free and pampered. If not, no worries! For DIY, go slightly heavier on blush and contour, keep highlight soft, stick with neutral eyeshadow, light eyeliner, and don’t skip lashes — they photograph beautifully. Lip gloss is always a yes

DON’T NEGLECT THE NAILS

During your shoot, a lot of poses will have your hands near your face, so make sure your nails look just how you want! Avoid chipped polish or overly busy designs. French manicures, light/natural colors, or simple polish photograph best.

Accessories + Props

Think beyond outfits. Focus on the little details that show off who you are right now or just add some fun, cute props.

I always recommend bringing a bouquet of flowers: hold them in boots, tuck them in a purse, or just give your hands something playful to do. Got a car you love? Let’s grab some shots with it. Your pup got you through the tough days? Bring them along. Sports medals, trophies, or a letterman you’re proud of? We’ll make sure those shine too. Play the guitar, paint, or have another hobby? Bring it along.

Accessories like hats, jewelry, or fun shoes help mix up your looks. And if you want, toss in some confetti for a little extra fun.

Friends or fam who mean the world to you? They can totally be part of your session too!

Session Planning

Once you're officially booked (YAY!! ), you’ll get a senior questionnaire sent straight to your inbox. This little form helps me get to know you, your style, your vibe, and everything that’ll make your session totally personal and perfectly you.

Please take your time filling it out after you’ve read through this guide, it seriously makes such a difference! The more info you give me, the more I can customize your experience and make sure your gallery reflects your personality, style, and everything you love.

We’ll lock in your location(s) based on the vibe you're dreaming of.

After that, we’ll stay in touch! You can send me your outfit ideas, ask for help picking what works best, or even get a little style advice from me if you're stuck!

The Week Before

As your shoot gets closer, I’ll check in with you to confirm the exact time + location.

Senior sessions are usually scheduled during golden hour; typically, about 2 hours before sunset or just after sunrise. Why? Because the light is soft, glowy, flattering, and just perfect for dreamy photos!

We’ll lock in your time about 1 week before your session, depending on the weather + sunset. So, if we originally said 6PM, don’t be surprised if we shift to 5:30 or 6:30 to chase the best light, totally normal!

Just keep an eye on your messages, and I’ll make sure everything is set so you’re fully prepped + stress-free going into your shoot.

The Day Of

Be On Time

Golden hour gives the best light, so try to arrive 15-30 minutes early. That way, traffic or little delays won’t cut into your perfect shots.

First 15 Minutes

When you get here, we’ll go through all your outfits together and plan which locations, props, and flowers will make each look pop. Seeing everything in person really helps us create amazing photos!

Posing & Shooting

No posing experience needed—I’ll guide you the whole time! We usually spend 20-30 minutes per outfit, moving to new locations as we go. Pro tip: save your favorite outfit for last. Just relax and enjoy the fun!

Want it a bit more casual or more polished?

Are there any additional travel or location fees?

Yes, clients are responsible for any applicable travel and location fees. For locations more than 40 miles outside of 48843, there will be a travel fee. I’ll always be upfront with these costs and ensure everything is clear before we finalize any details. :)

What happens if we have bad weather?

This is by far the most asked question I get about things that could go wrong, which makes total sense...because bad weather happens all the time! If there is bad weather in the forecast for your shoot, rest assured that you have options and I am MORE than happy to reschedule! I typically wait until we are 48 hours out from the session to make a final decision about weather because it changes so often.

If there is a 50% chance of rain or LESS: It is TOTALLY up to you whether you want to move forward with trying to shoot, or if you'd prefer to reschedule to another date. If we shoot and it DOES rain...we will have to finish the session despite the weather (we can't do two shoots if you decide to move forward but the weather doesn't cooperate). But we can make some REALLY cute photos happen in the rain!!! However, if you have your heart set on glowing light and bright images...I'd recommend rescheduling to be safe.

If there is a 50% chance of rain or MORE: My professional recommendation in these scenarios is to reschedule. Even if it doesn't end up raining, it's always better to be safe than sorry, especially if you are really excited about bright, sunset light in your photos!

Wind: There has only been one time I've had to reschedule a session for bad wind...and it was CRAZINESS! Typically, we can shoot despite the wind if we are strategic with WHERE we shoot. But if there are crazy gusts and you would prefer to move to a day when we know your hair won't have flyaways... we can make that happen!

Fog: Typically, fog is only an issue with sunrise shoots.... but I've had it happen! If there is severely thick fog, it will impact your images because they will be cloudy and grey...which is not my typical shooting style that you booked me for.

Cloudy: I have a lot of seniors who get worried about cloudy days because they think their images won't be as bright and beautiful...but rest assured, that's not true!! Cloudy days are actually AMAZING for photographers...because it means there are no harsh shadows!! Unless it is a seriously grey day with heavy fog or severe storm clouds...cloudy days are our friend!! AND they aren't as hot!!

What happens if the weather is unfavorable on the day of an outdoor shoot?

That is COMPLETELY okay! We will make the final call 24-48 hours before your session. I do my best to leave room open for rescheduling if we need to for reasons outside of our control (i.e. sickness, weather, emergencies). Typically, you won't have to wait longer than a week if we have to move your date!*

*This does NOT include needing to reschedule because of poor planning, running late or any other reason. These reschedules are required to book within two weeks of the rescheduled date.

My skin is breaking out like crazy... HELP!

Girl, we've ALL been there! Don't worry one bit. I am happy to remove any large blemishes in Photoshop - you won't even know it happened! Promise!

Where am I going to change my clothes?

This is a question I get a lot! Typically, my seniors choose to change their outfits in the car. A lot of the time, we are photographing at locations that do not offer public bathrooms, so it's the quickest option! I recommend trying to organize your outfits + accessories ahead of time to make this process super quick and easy. If you would feel more comfortable changing in a bathroom, just let me know ahead of time - I'm happy to select your locations based around which ones have public bathrooms!
